Jellylearn Invited to Speak at the International Road Safety Forum in Bologna

On the 9th October, our Director Michael Bennett was asked to speak about the implications of the new EU Directive regarding Hazard Perception at the International Road Safety Forum in Bologna. This meeting, organised by the European Driving Schools Association (EFA), was attended by the European Transport Safety Council, EU Parliament members, UNECE stakeholders, and road safety academics and professionals.

The New EU Directive

Hazard Perception has been consistently associated as one of the few cognitive driving skills found to reduce traffic accidents, particularly among learner drivers. Its inclusion in the new Directive is the result of the dedication of EFA and Jellylearn, working together with ETSC. The highlights of the new Directive recommend hazard perception as a minimum requirement for the Theory Test across all EU member states.

This is a landmark moment for road safety in Europe. Jellylearn has been working with the EFA to support the EU with the drafting of this Directive, and its inclusion of hazard perception reflects years of advocacy and evidence-based work by our team and our partners.
