New EU Directive Recommends Hazard Perception Testing for All Member States
Jellylearn is excited to announce that a new Directive published this Autumn includes hazard perception testing and training for the very first time. Jellylearn has been working with the EFA, the International Federation for Driving Schools, to support the EU with the drafting of the new Directive.
Key Hazard Perception Requirements
The key aspects of the Directive that relate specifically to Hazard Perception are: that the Theory Test should include hazard perception as a minimum; that driving risk factors related to various road conditions, including perception and anticipation of hazards, must be addressed; and that hazard perception and accident avoidance — including understanding and anticipating the behaviour of other road users — must be covered in driver training and testing.
What This Means
This is a significant step forward for road safety across Europe. For the first time, all EU member states will be required to incorporate hazard perception into their driver licensing frameworks — bringing the evidence-based approach that has reduced collision rates in the UK to millions of drivers across Europe.
